Episcopal Youth Community, or EYC, is one aspect of Youth Ministries at Good Shepherd. Junior EYC is for 6th through 8th grade students and the Senior EYC is for those in 9th through 12th grades. The two Groups meet separately on Wednesday evenings when the program consists of topical discussions, bible studies and fellowship. Sunday afternoon get-togethers are geared toward fun, team building, games and crafts.
The Youth Room, on the second floor of the Mission Center, is also open on Thursday afternoons for movies during the summer and “Hang-Out Time” during the school year. In addition to the regular meetings, there are opportunities for monthly outreach and large fellowship events that are publicized in the EYC calendar in the monthly “Shepherd’s Tidings” parish newsletter and accessible by selecting the “EYC Calendar” link from the left-hand menu.
There is a monthly outreach project to encourage youth to give of themselves to others, following Christ’s example. Service activities range from Feed My Lambs (fixing lunches for low-income residents in Porter), stewardship of the Church Day, Lord of the Streets homeless ministry, Seafarers Ministry, and hosting Blessing of the Animals. In addition, both Jr. EYC and Sr. EYC participate in summer mission trips.
Parents of youths participating in church-sponsored field trips must complete a Medical Release form, which authorizes emergency medical care for their children in the unlikely event it becomes necessary. The form can be downloaded as a PDF document by selecting the “Medical Release” link from the left-hand menu.
